Tactico / Help / Session Planner
Session Planner
14 answers for this part of Tactico. Everything here lives on /sessions.
Why can't I open the Session Planner?
Who can use the Session Planner · Pro feature
- Go to /sessions.
- If you are signed out, you see a 'Sign In Required' screen with a Sign in with Google button.
- If you are signed in on the Free plan, you see a 'Pro Feature' screen listing what Session Planner does, with a 'View Pro Plans' button.
- If you are on Pro or an active trial, the planner loads immediately with your saved sessions and templates.
Tips
- On a phone (screen narrower than about 880px), the left sidebar with templates and saved sessions is hidden once a session is open. Use the '+ New Session' button shown when no session is loaded, or switch to a wider screen to browse your templates and saved list.
How do I create a new training session plan?
Build a new session with the wizard · Pro feature
- On /sessions, click '+ New Session' in the left sidebar.
- Step 1 asks you to pick a structure: Play-Practice-Play (marked Recommended), Whole-Part-Whole, or Free Build. Free Build skips straight to an empty session you fill in yourself.
- Step 2 (PPP or WPW only): pick a theme such as Possession, Pressing, Finishing, Build-Up, Transition, Defending, Wing Play or Set Pieces. The theme decides which drills get suggested.
- Step 3: pick a total duration of 45, 60, 75 or 90 minutes. Each part of the session is sized automatically from the framework's percentages.
- Step 4: choose 'Build with suggested drills' to auto-fill every part with drills matching your theme, or 'Build empty structure' to get the parts with no drills and add them yourself.
- The builder opens in the middle of the screen with your new session ready to edit.
Tips
- A short note above the first part reminds you that warm-up is on you: the plan starts after your own 5-10 minute warm-up.
Are there ready-made training session templates?
Start from a U.S. Soccer-style template · Pro feature
- On /sessions, look at 'U.S. Soccer-style templates' in the left sidebar.
- There are age-grouped templates from U10 to U18 covering themes like Possession, Build-Up, Pressing, Finishing, Transition, Wing Play, Defending and Set Pieces, each tagged U.S. SOCCER or WPW.
- Click any template to load it fully built, with real drills already placed in each part.
- The Save button stays greyed out at first, because a template is a read-only reference.
- Change anything — the title, date, team, a drill, a duration — and Save becomes available so you can keep your own copy.
Can I reuse my last session settings quickly?
Rebuild your last session settings in one click · Pro feature
- Build at least one session through the '+ New Session' wizard.
- Next time you click '+ New Session', a 'Quick start' card appears above the framework choices, labelled 'Last used'.
- It shows your last framework, theme and duration, for example 'Play-Practice-Play · Possession · 60 min'.
- Click the card to build a new session with those same settings instantly, with drills suggested again from the theme.
How do I add a drill to my session?
Add a drill to a part · Pro feature
- In the builder, find the part you want to add to (for example 'Practice' or 'Play 1').
- Click '+ Add drill' at the bottom of that part.
- A drill picker opens with a search box and category filter buttons across the top. If your session has a theme, the picker starts pre-filtered to a matching category.
- Type to search, or click a category button to filter.
- Click a drill card to add it. The picker closes automatically and a toast confirms 'Drill added'.
- Click any drill row in the part (not its ✕) to open a read-only preview with the full field diagram.
Tips
- If a saved session references a drill that no longer exists in the library, it shows as a red 'Missing drill' row. You can only remove it, not preview it.
How do I remove a drill or a part from my session?
Remove a drill or a part · Pro feature
- To remove one drill, click the small ✕ on its row inside the part.
- A toast confirms it was removed and shows an 'Undo' button for about 6 seconds — click it to bring the drill straight back.
- To remove a whole part, click the ✕ on that part's header (only shown when the part can be deleted).
- The same Undo toast appears for a removed part.
Tips
- In a Play-Practice-Play or Whole-Part-Whole session, the built-in parts (Play 1, Practice, Play 2, and so on) can't be deleted — only parts you add yourself, or any part in a Free Build session, show the ✕.
How do I add my own part to a Free Build session?
Add a custom part (Free Build) · Pro feature
- Start or open a Free Build session (choose Free Build in the New Session wizard, or start with no template).
- Scroll to the bottom of the builder and click '+ Add a custom part'.
- A new part named 'Custom part' appears, set to 15 minutes with no drills yet.
- Rename it, change its duration, and click '+ Add drill' to fill it in, exactly like any other part.
How do I rename my session or change its date?
Edit the session title, date, team and part lengths · Pro feature
- Open a session in the builder.
- Click the title field at the top and type a new name.
- Use the Date field and the Team field just below it to set when the session is and which team it's for.
- Change a part's minutes by editing the number next to 'MIN' on that part.
- Every change is auto-saved as a local draft after about a second, shown by a small 'Saving…' then 'Saved just now' label next to the title.
Tips
- That auto-save label only protects a local draft in this browser, so a tab reload never loses your work. It is not the same as saving the session into your library — for that, use the Save button in the top action bar.
How do I save my session so I can find it later?
Save a session to your library · Pro feature
- With a session open and any change made, click 'Save' in the top action bar.
- A toast confirms 'Session saved'.
- The session now appears under 'My Sessions' in the left sidebar and stays there across visits and devices while you're signed in.
- Save is greyed out only while you're viewing an unmodified template — make any edit first.
How do I open a session I saved before, or delete one?
Reopen or delete a saved session · Pro feature
- On /sessions, look at 'My Sessions' in the left sidebar for the list of everything you've saved.
- Click a session's title to load it into the builder.
- To delete one, click the ✕ next to it in the list.
- Confirm the browser prompt asking to delete that session, which warns this cannot be undone.
- A toast confirms 'Session deleted'. If it was the session you had open, the planner loads a fresh copy of the first template instead.
How do I share my session plan with an assistant coach or parent?
Share a session by link, WhatsApp or email · Pro feature
- With a session open, look at the 'Share' group in the top action bar.
- Click 'Copy link' to copy a shareable web link to your clipboard — a toast confirms 'Link copied'.
- Click 'WhatsApp' to open WhatsApp with a pre-written message (session title, framework, duration, part and drill counts, and the link) ready to send.
- Click 'Email' to open your email app with the same message pre-filled.
- Anyone who opens the link sees a read-only view of the session. They do not need a Tactico account or Pro to view it.
How do I print my session plan or save it as a PDF?
Export a session as a printable PDF handout · Pro feature
- With a session that has at least one part, click 'Export PDF' in the top action bar.
- A toast tells you to choose 'Save as PDF' in the print dialog that opens a moment later.
- In your browser's print dialog, pick 'Save as PDF' (or your PDF printer) as the destination and save the file.
- The PDF starts with a cover page (title, date, team, totals and a session outline), then flows through every part with each drill's diagram and description.
Tips
- If the session has no parts yet, you'll see 'Session has no parts yet' instead of the print dialog.
How do I download my session as a picture to post or send?
Export a session as an image · Pro feature
- With a session open, click 'Export PNG' in the top action bar.
- A toast shows 'Generating PNG…' while the image is built.
- A vertical image (session title, theme, and a numbered timeline card for each part with its minutes) downloads automatically to your device.
- A confirmation toast reads 'PNG downloaded' once it's done.
How do I get Tacti to write a practice session plan?
Have Tacti draft a session plan for you · Pro feature
- Open Tacti, the coach in the corner of any page, and tell him what you need, for example: plan a 60 minute session for 14 U12 players with 8 cones and 5 balls, focused on pressing. You can also pick Draft a session plan from the quick actions.
- Tacti lines up a card with your details. Tap Review and confirm to open the form, then check the number of players, the age group, the session length, the space, soccer or futsal, the focus and the equipment you have. Balls are always assumed.
- Tap Draft the plan. It takes up to a minute and you are only charged when the plan is ready. The button shows the cost, and a free trial includes one plan.
- Read the plan. Every activity opens to show its goal, setup, organisation, coaching points and progressions. Nothing is saved yet.
- Tap Save to Session Planner to keep it, or Discard to drop it.
- After saving, tap Open in Session Planner to change any of the boxes, add a library drill or adjust the minutes. Tap Download PDF to print the handout.
Tips
- Tacti only uses the equipment you list and plans shorter sessions for younger ages (60 minutes at most for U8 and under).
- It is a draft written by AI: read it through and adjust it to your players, your space and safety before you run it.
