Hosting a live session
5 answers for this part of Tactico. Everything here lives on /app.
How do I start a live session with my assistant coaches?
Start a live session
- Open the board at /app and sign in — live sessions need an account.
- In the top toolbar, click the 'Live' button (a circular icon labelled Live; Free accounts see a small PRO tag next to it).
- A 'Live collab is in beta' panel opens. On Pro, pick a voice mode first: 'Broadcast' (you and staff talk, viewers raise a hand to speak) or 'Meeting' (up to 5 coaches all talk freely, no viewers).
- Leave 'Record this session' checked if you want a replay afterwards, or switch it off.
- Click 'Start session'. The button shows 'Starting session…' while Tactico saves your board and creates the room.
- The panel switches to a running view with two links: 'Invite an assistant coach' and 'Invite players to watch'. Tap Copy next to either one.
- Send the coach link to your assistants and the viewer link to players or parents — both open the same board in their browser, no app to install.
- A blue bar appears across the top of your screen showing you are hosting, with a live head-count of who's in.
Tips
- On Free you get 1 assistant-coach seat and no viewers; upgrade to Pro for 5 assistant coaches and 20 viewers.
- The Animate tab is switched off for everyone while a live session is running.
Why can't I start another live session this week?
Why the Live button is locked
- Free accounts can start 1 live session every rolling 7 days, counted from the moment you last clicked Start session — not by the calendar week.
- Once you've used it, the Live button shows a lock icon, and clicking it opens a panel that tells you the exact date and time your next free slot opens.
- If you click 'Start session' while locked, Tactico sends you to the Pro upgrade page instead of starting anything.
- Deleting an old session does not reset the timer — the 7 days always count from when it was created.
Tips
- The countdown is precise right after you host a session (e.g. 'in 4 hours') — check back once it's close.
How do I give an assistant coach control of the board during a live session?
Let an assistant coach edit the board
- Start or open your live session on /app — the 'People in session' panel appears on the right (a bottom drawer on phones).
- Find the assistant coach's row — their badge reads 'Assistant'.
- Click the pencil icon next to their name. This grants edit control; without it they can watch the board live but can't move chips or draw.
- The icon fills in and a blue 'Control' badge appears next to their name once they can edit.
- To take control back, click the same icon again (now a checkmark pencil) to revoke it.
- You can grant control to more than one assistant coach at once, up to your plan's editor limit.
Tips
- New assistant coaches join view-only by default — grant control the moment they join if you want them drawing right away.
- You, the host, always have control and can never lose it.
How do I remove or mute someone from my live session?
Remove or mute someone from a live session
- Open the 'People in session' panel on the right while a live session is running.
- To silence someone without removing them, click the microphone-with-line icon on their row — this mutes their live audio only.
- To remove them completely, click the ✕ icon on their row and confirm 'Remove [name] from the session?'.
- If you removed an assistant coach, Tactico asks whether to generate a new coach link, because their old link still lets them rejoin. Confirm to kill the old link and copy a fresh one — it can only be shown once, so copy it right away.
- Removing a viewer needs no new link — viewer links carry no edit key, so declining keeps them out until you share a link again.
Tips
- You can't mute or remove yourself — those actions only show up on other people's rows.
How do I end a live session, and what happens to the recording?
End or leave a live session
- While hosting, look at the blue bar across the top of the board and click 'End session' on the right.
- Confirm 'End the session for everyone?' — this closes the room for every editor and viewer immediately.
- If you were recording, a screen appears that uploads the recording from your own browser. Stay on it — closing the tab or navigating away before it finishes loses the recording.
- Once the upload finishes, you're offered Watch, Copy link, or Go to Dashboard.
- If you're an assistant coach or a viewer rather than the host, the top-bar button reads 'Leave' instead — it just takes you back to your dashboard and does not end the session for anyone else.
Tips
- Closing the tab or refreshing without pressing End session can strand the session — always use the button.
- A yellow 'REC' warning stays in the top bar the whole time recording is on, reminding you it only saves once you end with the button.
